Pre-tattoo care

Apply moisturizer to the area of the body you plan to get a tattoo two times a day, a few days before the session. Well hydrated skin will make the process much easier and faster.

Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to the tattoo, Being well hydrated will help the tattoo process.

Avoid direct sunlight to the area you want to be tattooed for at least a week before the appointment. It’s not ideal to tattoo skin that has recently been burned or recovering from a sunburn.

Avoid alcohol the night before a tattoo session. Alcohol is a blood thinner and will increase the bleeding. It’s also just not a fun time to get a tattoo while hung over.

Make sure you eat a filling meal about an hour before your appointment. Having an empty stomach may increase the reaction while getting tattooed.

It’s a good idea to shower before you session.

post-tattoo care

Keep the Saniderm bandage on your tattoo for 4 days. The Saniderm will act as a barrier protecting your skin from bacteria and germs. You can shower with the Saniderm bandage on, it is waterproof. Do not submerge your tattoo in water for at least 2 weeks while it heals. Submerging it into water can lead to an infection and fading of your tattoo. While in the shower, you can peel off the Saniderm bandage and start the cleaning process.

POST-SANIDERM BANDAGE REMOVAL CLEANING PROCESS

Tattoo cleaning supplies: non scented anti-bacterial soap, Cetaphil/Aquaphor skin moisturizer, fresh paper towels.

Wash your hands with the anti-bacterial soap; only touch your tattoo with clean hands. Use warm water and soap to gently lather the tattoo, scoop water in your hand to clean the soap off the tattoo. Use a fresh sheet of paper towels to gently pat your tattoo dry. DO NOT use a bathroom towel/hand towel as it can collect bacteria and irritate the tattoo and cause infection. Once dry, apply the moisturizer and gently rub it in to the area of the tattoo. Repeat this process 2 times a day, morning and night.

Some things to consider while your new tattoo is healing:

  • DO NOT pick at your tattoo, this will cause ink to fall out.

  • Only touch your tattoo with clean hands.

  • Avoid direct sunlight for at least 2 weeks while your tattoo heals.

  • DO NOT put sunscreen on a fresh tattoo.

  • DO NOT shave over a fresh tattoo, wait until it’s healed.

  • DO NOT submerge a tattoo in water as it heals, no swimming or ocean for 2 weeks.
